With Netflix recently dropping airplay support, is it now no longer possible to play Netflix audio on the Sonos One while still retaining the video on a device like an IPad?

That's really more of a question for Netflix and Apple. Sonos is just the audio endpoint, it plays the audio sent to it over play according to the specs set forth by Apple.

That said though, it sounds like the netflix announcement has to do with streaming video content, not audio. I would then guess that you still would be able to watch content on your ipad while streaming the audio to Sonos One.
Danny is right that it is an issue with Netflix and Apple, but it is also an issue for many SONOS users like me. And his guess is wrong; without airplay, you can no longer watch Netflix on your iPad, iPhone, etc. and stream the audio to a Sonos speaker. Of course you can plug into a 5.
😕 This is really frustrating as my iPad / Play5 setup is how I primarily watch(ed) Netflix.

Seems to work for me, using Netflix on an iPad. Select your desired AirpPlay 2 Sonos speaker for audio output using the Control Centre, play the video via the Netflix app. Audio comes out of the Sonos speaker(s).
Hmmm. I’ve double checked all my iOS devices. They all no longer have an AirPlay option when using the Netflix App.

Right, but you can send the audio component only by using the iOS Control Centre [1] while the video plays on the iDevice, as I stated above.
