New Sonos App - Utterly useless!
My most used functions have disappeared.
This is a major failure by Sonos. I can no longer set alarms, edit playlists, set sleep mode, all features I used heavily. Looks like I won’t be expanding my Sonos system in the future if they are so eager to push out new updates with less features. I can no longer trust that features I use will continue to operate in the future.

They know what’s missing. This app is missing tons of features the previous version supported
Bugs include:
- System crashes erratically
- Grouped rooms cannot have individual rooms muted, you have to slide to zero, this is not workable as to get all rooms on same volume level is very fiddly, and slow. Worked fine in S2 version
- When in group mode, sometimes a room does not play, you then have to deselect that room and go back and select it, sometimes it starts working
I would like to downgrade to S2, please make this available on Appstore - it’s just not fair to put this “new version” out and leave us to work through bugs.
On the subject of the new version, Ken Griffiths, you say many people did not like version S2, perhaps the silent majority did. In my opinion this new version is a step backwards, it’s rather ugly & fussy interface, and seemingly has less features and comes with bugs.
Again, please make S2 available on Appstore, urgently
Since the latest app version was installed my system has become completely unstable I.e.:
- Sonos devices fail to play what I ask them to
- Individual Sonos devices cut in and out intermittently
Really annoying seeming as I’m tied into the Sonos ecosystem

I’m assuming that you’ve not tried it yet? The other replies here give some clues.
It’s almost as if Sonos have stripped out all previous functionality whilst making it ‘look attractive’ hoping that no one will notice…
Even the new web browser interface is useless.

Any actual mods going to comment? Or do I just have to rubbish this all over social media? We pay a lot of money for quality speakers, to be absolutely and consistently let down by *, unresponsive, unusable apps.

Ken, this has been going on for years with users, for years, screenshotting and tech help convos- in all the system SHOULD be brilliant, but the app is *. So no, not a constructive thread; more like totally pissed off users who are let down by a a * app, when the the actual product is exceptional. That enough for your KEN?

I’m new to the community as I never had any problems with SONOS before but the update to the APP is awful. Its very slow but also my Playlists on Qobuz are not shown. I know they are there because two of them show up on SONOS Favourites. I spent ages on a webchat to SONOS support to no avail. They suggested I call the support number which said was a wait time of 120 minutes. Hence why I joined the community to see if I can find an answer but obviously I’m not alone. I am using Android but the new WebApp behaves exactly the same.
Just thought I would drop into this thread to join the general ‘the new app is terrible” vibe. Any functionality to be able to enjoy my own collection of files played from my DNLA is gone. No ability to bookmark the locations, can’t randomise whole folders or lists etc.
I understand some folks will say ‘be constructive’ in anything said here but really, it will take me less time to shop for a competitors product than to list what’s wrong with the new app. Besides Sonos are supposed to be the experts in this area, an assertion which appears now to be entirely untrue.
This new update is just terrible. I cannot even use Spotify or any of my streaming services on this.
Lots of errors on the interface. Lots of features removed....it is just contemptous of Sonos to treat their customers like this.
Its impossible for me to understand who has given green light to launch this * show.
the app was never the greatest or most stable but this is even worse.
Features gone missing:
- clear queue
- queue edit
- search in apple music only show limited results without a way to show more.
- Alarm clock is gone
- ever new window takes forever to load even if there is no new information presented
in general the app is a nightmare of slideouts and graphics that screams form over function.

Totally unuseable
I can’t even play an folder of music. It only allows me to add a single song to the queue. If I try and add a second, it replaces the queue.
Total waste of time. Rolled back the app. If this is the future, then I’m looking elsewhere for speakers.

This app update is a disaster. Whoever made the decision to release this garbage should be fired. Did Sonos even test this thing? I knew within two minutes that this app update is junk. Ugggggg.

100% agree. Can no longer add songs to the queue (a basic day one requirement!) and can no longer balance my paired speakers.
So annoyed with Sonos right now - how can they release this new app and then not even be available at the weekend to address customer questions (surely most customers will be using their systems at the weekend!).
Driving a Samsung 21; App is totally non functional...All I have is a screen full of non-responsive grey boxes. AND no way to report this issue. Reset / Uninstalled / Stood on my head and whistled Dixie multiple times...nothing...PLEASE LET US HAVE THE OLD APP BACK!

I think the issue is that the OP is stating the most accurate description possible of the scenario. “The app is useless”. I have absolutely no functionality at all. Zero. Anything i try to do in the app simply resorts to playing Taylor Swift in my bedroom. You can’t list every single piece of functionality as not working under those circumstances.
The answer isn’t to fix a list of things. It is to roll it back and test it again BEFORE taking it to market.
How this app made it to market through testing is beyond me.

This worked, I installed yesterday.. but this morning, the new version had installed itself.. again!! 😡
I got round this by doing the following:-
Once I’d installed 16.1 I disabled wi fi and mobile data. I then went into play store and disabled automatic updates on the sonos app.
Go to manage apps and device > manage apps > sonos > the three dots at the top right > uncheck enable auto-update
Then turned wi fi and data back on
I just came here to add my voice to the cacophony.
Sonos should be embarrassed with this update. Connectivity is worse. So many features are missing. Rolling them back out slowly is a horrible solution.
We’ve been using Sonos products with ease and satisfaction for over a decade. This is a really, really * experience.

WTF ….are trying to wind your customers up?
I USE AN ALL MAC SYSTEM.
I WILL USE CAPITALS SO YOU CAN READ IT KEN.
MY SEVERAL THOUSAND POUND SYSTEM IS NOW JUNK, I CANNOT ACCESS MY MAC MUSIC LIBRARY WITH SONOS EVEN THOUGH ITS ON THE SAME COMPUTER. MY MORNING ALARMS NO LONGER WORK.
I WANT ALL THE FUNCTIONALITY OF S2 …FOR ME IT WAS FINE AND YOU HAVE BROKEN IT.
AT LEAST MAKE YOUR UPDATES OPTIONAL.
AS YOU CAN TELL I’M PRETTY “ANNOYED “.
I WILL CONTACT MY SOLICITORS FOR OPTIONS (MAYBE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WILLGET YOUR ATTENTION ) AND I WILL BE RETURNING THE MOST RECENTLY PURCHASED SONOS JUNK.
Whilst I’d love them to come out and say “we agree with you this release is a right stinker”. However, I suspect that might have a negative effect on their employment situation.
