Sonos really screwed the pooch on the update. Nothing connects now, simplicity is gone. What in wide world of sports were you thinking????? Was there any real world testing done? Massive screw-up. Thinking of pitching what I have and starting over with another brand. Awful product
The new app is so bad it defies belief. How did it get signed off? The CEO needs to be made aware. We’ve invested massively in a system that’s now unusable. I feel Sonos need to be held accountable and compensate users.
I’d settle though at having the old app back, being able to turn the volume up and down or putting on a radio station feels like a distant luxury now.
I have had to unplug my SONOS system, as it began randomly playing country music without prompting. I was hitting the button on my speaker to turn it off, then it would wait thirty seconds or so – and start again. Interestingly though, when I *want* it to play something, it refuses. So now I have expensive black boxes dotted around my house, but I’m listening to Bose. Sack the CEO.
You know what’s missing in all these threads about the ridiculously awful SONOS app update?
Any responses from anyone at SONOS that would at least let us know they give a damn and are going to do something!!
After more than 90 minutes on the phone to tech support, farmed out to the Philippines, I was finally able to get the Sonos app to connect to my personal music library on my personal server. (The app has done this flawlessly for over a decade prior to this “update”). Guess what? It still sucks! No playlists. No adding items to an existing cue. No timer. Everything is extremely sloooooow ( using M2 chip and latest OS). It takes forever for song info to update. The GUI says I’m still playing a song that ended 5 minutes ago. The GUI says my Sonos amp is playing audio from the TV while it is actually streaming music from an album.
I’ve never experienced this level of incompetence in software engineering before. My take away is that what Sonos says is not to be trusted in any way.
Untustworthy company
Total fail. People that make decisions thought it was a good idea to roll this out. Kinda scary for the future of Sonos.

If Patrick Spence stays, I go. Awful decision making, awful attitude.
Sonos user of over 15 years, this company doesn't deserve me
The app is horrible. Some speakers did not roll over. Song queues are a mess. Music plays on its own. The last app was great easy to use. Easy to add new speakers. Now it’s just a mess. Had to turn it off last night because it wouldn’t work. I wonder if Sonos reads these.
They know the app sucks. They just don’t care cause they have headphones to sell.
I doubt they’re selling any headphones right now! Hopefully no one is buying ANYTHING from them! They have destroyed a good thing.
The new update is awful. Couldn’t leave well enough alone. It used to work great. Now all sorts of issues. PLEASE FIX.
Today I discovered that if you reboot or restart your computer (Mac OS) the “new improved” app will forget the location of your music library entirely. You have re-enter the NAS location, user name and password and then re-index your music files. For me, the is a 45 minute operation. Note that on the iOS app it is not even possible to enter your library location or index files.
Just another addition to the long list of “improvements” to the new Sonos app. Silly me, I thought a music app should be able to play music. Sonos has proved me wrong.
Still researching alternate music app/hardware alternatives that actually function.
Yes, already discovered this! I am working on the principle that the present CEO of Sonos will get his redundancy package sooner than later, and someone with a brain will be put into his office. Then a working piece of software will be issued and I can go back to using my beloved SONOS speakers again! Might take a few months, but seriously – how can he survive?
I was mistaken. Losing the connection to my library does NOT require a reboot or a restart. It just spontaneously loses the connection with no action on my part.
I have never been so ANGRY in my life. What kind of idiots would release this kind of “software”? It's as if they have replaced your car with a new one but it has no engine, only a colorful new paint job a a couple of tires. Worthless!
i can not emphasize enough how bad this update is. was there no usability testing? it used to be so simple to use and now a complete disaster. i have several thousand dollars invested in this system as an early adopter and now i feel as though i am completely screwed. do they hear this feedback????
The app and Sonos just self destructed. I am shocked how terrible it is.
Sonos team, how did you manage to literally destroy the user experience with one release? I've been in IT and software development for over 28 years and I've never experienced such a degradation in user experience as I and others have recently been subjected to. I've owned SONOS products since the very start and even during the s1 and s2 debacle I still kept faith even when I was losing devices I'd purchased. I'm dumbstruck how features that made Sonos their name, like grouping speakers is no longer working between two software versions. Don't you guys do regression testing? This has to be the worst app Sonos has released to date and I'm not that hates progress. But if it ain't broke.…
So now I sit here and realise that many features have gone and there's no proper dialogue from the company to assure their very expensive devices are still worth buying if the software is totally crap. So to this end, as a developer, do you guys have an API so that I can create my own app. That way I can build something with the features that used to be a game changer Years ago, but are now just expected.
Sonos-are you listening? You are quickly losing a base of long-time customers. After spending $$$$ on a system for the entire house, I have one speaker that will connect. Ridiculous! Unfortunately, I can’t ditch the system and convert to a competitive brand. However, I can certainly give feedback to friends/family that are looking to purchase.
How do I uninstall this garbage update. I can’t listen to anything. This equipment is a paperweight at this point.
In addition to what everyone else has said, the music services that used to work on Sonos now either don’t work or have limited access. In fact, listeners from one music service I have all received an email apologizing for not being able to listen to their service through Sonos. They implied, professionally of course, they were frustrated. As of this writing their music app still doesn’t work on Sonos. Lastly, I feel the new Sonos app is unnecessarily complicated and cumbersome. Instead of having something just right in front of you and simple, I feel the new app is an exercise in hide and seek and trying to navigate through layers.
I’ve posted before but here’s my take.
music library has been rendered useless (I have several thousand albums) as you can’t search, no tile view, no alphabet scroll.
no fixed line out.
Can only add to end of queue or replace it. Can’t edit it, can’t save it. So no local playlists.
app I laggy especially the volume controls which sometimes don’t work at all, sometimes set to zero (they aren’t)
rooms sometimes disappear, had one room lose its name.
Some music services no longer available.
music library disappears.
app sometimes doesn’t hook up to the system.
app has terrible ux and ui, so much worse than S1
adding components almost always fails first time round, pairing speakers takes many goes.
cant fully edit the main screen, i dont want Sonos favourites, Sonos radio or recently played.
Overall a big step back from S1
Why?
There seems to be, according to this post, and this FAQ article.
My understanding is that both that post, and the FAQ article, will be updated as needed.
I agree the UX is absolutely terrible. @sonos - Please roll the App back to where is was before this latest update.
Sonos has now lost the connection to my server again. This was never a problem over the past decade. Now I get “No selections are available” or “Something went wrong. Try again”. It is impossible to overstate how miserable this “update” is. These are not inconveniences. They are MAJOR FLAWS. The app does NOT function.
Have a house full of Sonos and loved the flexibility of the system. That is all gone with this new app!
no search feature for library….volume control by speaker…gone….
how can I revert back to the previous app for iOS?
LET’S SAVE MONEY
This has all the earmarks of a department moved offshore
igo without saying where that offshore is !!
Simple Fix for Android users - install the old app !!!!!
It is a total fix in 5 minutes …
uninstall the Sonos app from your phone….install the previous version… ‘important’ - disable updates of this in the app settings
download the APK file ( it is a file of the previous app that you can install on your phone )https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/sonos-inc/sonos-for-android/sonos-for-android-80-00-04-release20240507-671145b-release/
See this link explaining “how to “.https://www.androidauthority.com/how-to-install-apks-31494/
I cannot connect to any of my Play:1 speakers and everything I try, all the old tricks I have learned over many years, fails. So I have no speakers. If this is a ploy to get me to buy new SONOS speakers, it will fail because this kind of connection problem has been an issue for the longest time. SONOS speakers are excellent, but the software just sucks! Please, please, please fix and soon – switching to my BOSE while I wait for this to be fixed.
This app update is causing so much unnecessary stress! Spent hours of time trying to get the system on line at the office. STILL NOT WORKING! Perhaps moving to amazon products is the answer. I have a giant investment in these speakers 15 speakers and all the hardware. Unreal
It’s like they accidentally rolled back to some dev UI from 15 years ago. It’s terrible. I will actually replace my Sonos hardware rather than keep using this terrible interface.
There is no quick way to scroll to a particular band in my library
Using the volume slider is horrible as your finger covers the position and there’s no longer a numerical value for reference. On a phone if I want to make a minor adjustment I can’t even tell if I’m raising or lowering the volume as I twist my finger slightly to try and move the slider
