I just installed the new Sonos app. After doing so, all but 2 of my playlists have disappeared?

Specifically, if I selected Sonos Favorites, then Playlists View All, only 2 playlist are showing . . . countless are MIA.

I sure hope there are instructions for resurrecting my playlist.

IOs automatically updated my app so as others, have lost playlists. Last year had moved all music from Spotify to Sonos playlists so have lost all music. Is there any way to bypass the update on the desktop app so they can still be accessed and moved? Have also tried the web version but no Sonos playlist option showing

This update needs to be rolled back immediately. I've lost all my playlists and there seems to be a focus on media services. I use my media from my Nas drive and I can't access it.

Is there a quick way to roll back this update on my IOS device?

This is absolutely terrible from SONOS. I won't be updating it on any other device I have.

I agree, but if you don’t update your other devices I don’t think they will function.  It’s one of those updates that you are forced to accept.  I’m really pissed at Sonos, I’ve lost tons of playlists.

If you open the Sonos app on desktop or laptop you can see your playlists on the right under “Sonos playlists” then if you right click on one of the playlists select save to Sonos favourites it will then show in your mobile Sonos app

Yes, Phonos plus works fine for me - I export from the playlists part (one by one).

Hi @RossJ,

I got paranoid about losing my playlists (even though they eventually appeared in the depths of Sonos Favorites, only to disappear again, then reappear… and the cycled continues). So, I downloaded Phonos Plus for iOS. I paid .99 for the premium feature pack, but no matter what I do, I can’t seem to Export my playlists with it.

The below is what I get. Anyone else had success getting it to work?

I have not tried to export from Sonophone - but an email to the developer using App Store will likely get a swift response.

For exporting playlists, I use Phonos Plus

This is Phonos Plus in the screenshot @RossJ . So, I guess you are saying it works for you without error.

The only way I listen to music is with my NAS drive. It has all the music and playlists I have accumulated over the decades. I should not have to pay for a monthly subscription music service to use my overly expensive playbar. This is RIDICULOUS. Any good company adds new features, they do not discontinue features that people are using.

So to listen to some music today, I updated a speaker.. told to update to the new app, have done so.. found it’s lost access to my NAS library. Can’t see anywhere in the app to add library. So used a desktop app & re-added my library. Glad to see all my Sonos Playlists are there.. however cannot see them in the new app or even access my library in the app(!).

Access to your own music library is kinda fundamental isn’t it? Isn’t Sonos supposed to be high quality multi-room audio? The highest quality will be my own library rather than streamed MP3’s won’t it?

If this is the way Sonos is heading, I’m tempted to sell my set up and move over to apple airport devices, which is a shame as I’ve always liked my Sonos.

Please Sonos fix the app so we have access to our library and playlists again.

I also have noticed that I have no access to my playlists.  Like a previous poster, they’ve been curated for years so I was really disappointed.  My husband was able to access them from his desktop app,so they are not gone but i have no way to access them.  One solution proffered was to use the desktop app.  I had previously been on the phone on hold for over an hour until i got to speak to a tech:  My desktop app has stopped working since the software update.  The solution given for that was to use the web version, which as others have commented, is rubbish.  To sum up: i have no desktop app; the web version has limited functionality; and i have a previous issue with the speakers wired to my connect:amp cutting out (their solution to that was it’s a known bug, you need to buy a new connect:amp).  Exceptionally disappointed with Sonos.  My husband is shorting their shares, because apparently everyone is disappointed with Sonos.

I’ve got the same problem as the other replies.
all my music is on my networked NAS.
Can’t access any of this now. Shocking that Sonos would do this with no warning. Now looking to sell my kit as it’s useless. Will buy something from a company that cares about its loyal customers.

Sonos App: No playlist anymore, WHY? I’ve 4 sets of speakers and know i can’t play any of my music!

Our broadband is so bad I can’t always stream so there’s no point.

Thanks Sonos for making an app that no longer plays my music!

I just did the “upgrade” to the new software on my Ipad. What a mistake!! All my Sonos playlist that I spent a lot of time putting together are gone!!! What the heck is happening here! That is all I play and add on to. Thank god I have my Iphone and dest top with the old software. I sure hope they fix this quickly!!

I have a Plex based NAS and previously tagged playing music to Sonos Favorites mainly because my Brilliant Home pads only saw Sonos Favorites for quick access (without having to drill down by individual sources).
After reading this - I am going to abandon using Sonos Favorites Playlist and changed to adding my Plex ‘favorite tracks’ to the Sonos Favorites. This allows me to rank music in Plex but automatically shows updates in Sonos Favorites link for my Plex Favorite tracks.
I had to use the Desktop App → Select a Music Source →  (in my case) Plex → Playlists → ♥️Tracks. Right click then ‘Add to Sonos Favorites’ (not to Sonos Playlist!!). Now my Sonos link to Plex updates as I Rank new songs.

The facility to add tracks to specific Spotify playlists while listening on the Sonos player seems to have removed or dropped. Very disappointing, and doesn’t make sense. Again, the curating features of the Sonos have been downgraded, turning me off the service and the product.

I’m repeating this to help people who missed it:

THE WORKAROUNDS FOR PLAYLISTS. (They are stored locally on your speakers.)

  1. use the independent apps, SonoPad or Sonophone.
  2. use the Sonos desktop app (which has not yet been de-featured).
  3. For backup, export playlists to a device using the app Phonos plus.

Other ideas, please add…

Just forced to update to the new SONOS app right now. Very sad to see all of my SONOS playlists gone. I have tried everything to find them. I loved the simplicity of the previous version. All my playlists were set up perfectly and I have had it like this since I purchased my first SONOS speaker in 2016. It is disheartening  and incredibly frustrating to see this lost functionality. The previous version(s) of the application gave anyone in my home access to easily look up my playlists because many of the people I know in my family, as well as friends, have very similar music tastes to me. I even set up a playlist for my girlfriend to use when she comes over, songs we both love. Now we cannot even listen easily to our pre-built playlists. SONOS, please fix this right away - don’t continue to destroy things that are good, we have enough of that going on in the world all around us on the daily!

To add to my earlier comment. I now have a very expensive Sonos system I am unable to use as I am no longer able to see my playlists.

SONOS THIS IS REDICULOUS. DO YOU EVEN CARE ABOUT YOUR CUSTOMIERS, MMM, lLET ME SEE……..NO

I to have lost all my playlists that i have spent hours creating. This is the only reason I use Sonos.

how can I view or get them back??  can I go back to the old version of the app?

Sonos chat said that the Playlists feature was not currently available in the Sonos upgrade & will return in a future update.  Ridiculous.   Also they cannot say how long it will take to get the Playlists included in the next update!

Same for me, lost my playlist and gutted reading the comments on this thread (tellingly none from SONOS!!!!).

COME ON SONOS...SORT YOUR SH!T OUT!!!!!

😤

Me too. No playlists and no ability to create them. Just add as "favorite". Probably THE most important feature gone. And no word if it's coming back, at least that I can find.

In an astonishing act of self-immolation SONOS appears to have dumped personal playlists - ignoring the effort of curation and betrayed the trust of users. I would advise anyone who has not updated to the May 2024 app to hold-off for now. “First come the innovators, who see opportunities that others don’t. Then come the imitators, who copy what the innovators have done. And then come the idiots, whose avarice undoes the very innovations they are trying to use to get rich.” Warren Buffett.

As others have stated, playlists are stored in the speakers.  The desktop app will show them for now.  *Other independent app controller that I use, have playlist functions and are great: SonoPad and Sonophone.

Very well said. This is an epic failure of the Sonos leadership team, on par with the S1/S2 debacle. I get that they’re likely making a cut when people sign up for streaming services and their may be other technical reasons behind their decision to dump personal playlist support, however the way this was carried out, with zero user notice and lacking an “easy” way to transition the playlists ahead of time, was either calculated stupidity or a total managerial breakdown. What you’ve done is not only leave your (well healed) users frustrated and feeling abandoned, but impacted people like me (with technical backgrounds) with older parents now panicking over the loss of years worth of curated playlists. I can help my folks fix this, but I’m angry AF at Sonos.

How a company with such amazing hardware and such impressive market capture could continue making such astonishingly bad user experience decisions with such lack of communication and forethought is worthy of its own college-level management course. I’ve been in IT leadership for over 25 years and I can think of a hundred different ways to cost effectively make such a transition with little to no user headaches. Sonos either just doesn’t hire very well; has inept leadership, or someone high up decided to piss people off hoping that the cost savings of doing so would either go unnoticed or pay off in the long run. Good job handing more of your market to your competitors, yet again.  For those of you so inclined, search for Sonos Corporate Governance- Any make your displeasure at this round of screwups heard.

It’s even worse: the new app shows only up to 50 playlists per service. Therefore, if you have more than 50 playlists, good luck! What a piece of crap!
