Music Library Compilations Issue Under 16.3.

Today I successfully updated to the latest 16.3 Firmware and Windows Desktop Controller.
I subsequently performed an “Update Music Library Now” from the 16.3 Windows Desktop Controller.
Now any Sonos Controller (including SonoPhone, SonoPad) show multiple entries for each compilation album when viewing Albums.
Just an example shown below...

Does anyone else have this issue?

Surprised there is no fix for this, among other things.  I have never believed they’d have this all sorted out in a few months, and I’ll still be surprised if by the end of the year it has all been sorted.  And I expect we never get back to the full features we lost or that the system will be the reliable joy it has been for us for 15 years now.

My friends who have enjoyed listening parties with me since my first component find the new app confusing and infuriating.  As do I.  That’s the real bummer - all the hype and no upside, just a bunch of bugs and glitchy operation.

I have officially opened the discussion with the audio consultant I work with. From previous comments, I doubt he is advocating Sonos, at least for the time being. He is an unbelievably great fellow who delivers incredibly good results.

Definitely a poorly planned/managed project and release. The time it is taking to get everything where it needs to be provides an indication of how far apart the hardware, cloud and app teams were in terms of being ready for release in May.

Eventually things will get there, but I think it’s still actually unknown how much longer it will take, so it’s safer for Sonos not to keep over-promising on fixed public delivery dates as that is how they ended up in the current situation in the first place.

It doesn’t help existing owners with issues and the longer it keeps dragging on the more likely an increasing number of existing users will find alternatives that do what they actually need. An advantage of Sonos, was buyers didn't need  to think about which services/features they actually used or needed, because Sonos supports so many.

Actually, I said, "... could not have provided a worse experience if they were operating a deliberate fraud." They are clearly negligent. But  screwing up is different from starting out with an intent to defraud . Not a lawyer, but I would guess they know they have civil liability. Hence, their ongoing silence.

This issue has persisted well beyond what any reasonable, or even extraordinarily forgiving, customer should tolerate. I am about ready to call my audio consultant to replace and junk a port and two sound bars. This is about the worst case of mismanagement and incompetence in the corporate world of which I am aware. Sonos could not have provided a worse experience if they were operating a deliberate fraud.

A delliberate fraud. Well put. A discrace.

Aside from the compilation album problem (which makes my extensive music library way too cluttered and makes it prohibitively time-consuming to try to listen to albums I want to listen to), there is also the need for the alphabetical index we used to get on the right side of the screen, which enables the user to jump to albums (or artists, or genres, etc.) that start with a certain letter.  That is enormously useful, and wouldn’t seem to be complicated.  No plans that I have seen to fix it.  Oh, well . . .

After adding 2 of 6 back into the app, they all reappeared. Doesn’t anyone here know how to play this game?

New outrage: with the latest app update, all of my “services” have disappeared. . But, they still reside in the Windows controller on my desk top, leaving me wondering about whether to add them back to the app, remove them from the controller and then add them back, or drive to Sonos headquarters and deposit all of my products in the lobby for a marshmallow roast. I had a port and a portable speaker in my prior residence, left for the new owners. Now I have two sound bars and a port. I feel badly for the new owners of the prior residence.

Shame on Sonos. Another update NOT fixing the compilation mess. I so much miss John MacFarlane. Where are you?

New app just dropped, but no firmware update yet, so still not fixed as we know it’s speaker firmware that has the problem…

I have to think this and the app issues must be devastating to their sales. I certainly wouldn’t apt to establish a system built on their technology. A new customer would have to be oblivious to all this.

Are they actually fixing ANYTHING at this point?

I was shocked when this issue hadn’t been sorted after two weeks. The fact is still a live issue is unbelievable to me.

Has anyone got any visibility on the time for the next firmware update, and whether or not it would be intended to fix this issue with that update?

In the meantime, we paid, they’ve received, we no longer have a properly functioning product.

what can I (we) say:  Sonos, the gift that keeps giving …. 😩

This issue would appear to expose a complete lack of suitable regression testing for speaker firmware with regard to indexing. This is not some esoteric edge case, as I’d venture compilation albums are quite popular amongst users of local libraries. In 15 years of using Sonos, I don’t recall them ever having messed up such a basic part of indexing before.

The few acknowledgments from Sonos do indicate that waiting for them to fix this is the best course of action. Given that, it would seem that a minimal regard for customers would require some estimate of the time frame for resolution.

I read an article where the CEO was lamenting the current state and touting the hard working staff. I admire hard work, but I paid to be able to listen to my music. The amount of hard work is irrelevant. I would be happier with less hard work and better results.

I did that “Various” / “Various” thing to one compilation and it worked, but I think Sonos will fix that mess eventually at which point you may regret doing that to all the compilations.

My music is stored on Innuos Zen Mini and I have the same issue. I can’t listen to any compilations in the music library unless I change all the Compilation albums within the Innuos App to show ‘Various’ instead of ‘Various Artists’. Then I have to change every track on the album listing to show ‘Various’ and not the recording artist name. And then update the music library with Sonos😤

Userlevel 1

Still no ETA on fixes for this issue? Could you roll it back to the previous release when it was still working and push that out for now? I think further communication from Sonos would help alleviate the frustration.

Thanks.

Sadly, as the indexing is done by the speaker and held on the speaker, it affects any software used to control Sonos speakers. Once the index is messed up, until Sonos issue a speaker firmware fix you’re stuck with it …

Just noticed this today! it messed up my library big time, so basically Sonos controller is useless until they fix this issue.

I'm so sick of hearing "well, the work around is ..." That should not be a common thing! I get it if it's for one thing for a temporary time. They've turned workarounds into an operational philosophy!

Frustrated.
