Sonos Port and Sonos Sub Compatibility

Can someone confirm that the Sonos Port (which requires a 3rd party amplifier) is NOT compatible with a Sonos Sub?  I believe the reason for this is that the Sub must pair directly to a Sonos component that has built in amplification (Amp, Sonos speakers).  A Sonos port cannot plug directly into a third party amplifier.

I realize there are hacks around this (pair the Sub with a Sonos speaker then group the speaker/Sub with the Port, eg.) but I do not want to do this.

If any of this is factually wrong, please educate me.

Correct. The Port cannot bond with a Sonos Sub.

A Sonos port cannot plug directly into a third party amplifier.

Quite the opposite. It’s because Port relies on downstream amplification, whose level/EQ/etc are unknown, that a Sub can’t be supported. Port would have no idea where to set the crossover and level for a Sub.
