Hi All,

I have a new Sonos Arc Entertainment set, but couldn’t get Dolby Atmos to pass thru to it.  For example, from Apple TV, proven Dolby Atmos material to Sony XBR-65X850C to HDMI4 (ARC) to Sonos Arc.  Apple TV does not hand shake with Dolby Atmos on Sony.  Digital Dolby 5.1 is OK.

questions:

  1. Does the Sonos ARC do PCM multi-channels or only compressed Dolby?
  2. Does the Sony XBR65x850C pass through Dolby Atmos to Sonos ARC via the HDMI4-ARC?

please help if you have experiences in the above.

many thanks

The Sonos Arc does support multichannel PCM but only if your TV is equipped with HDMI eARC. The Apple TV 4K also requires a TV with HDMI eARC to play Dolby Atmos or multichannel PCM audio. Because your TV is not equipped with eARC, it cannot pass through Dolby Atmos audio from an Apple TV 4K. More than likely, your TV cannot pass through Atmos audio from the TV’s internal apps either. The best app to test would be VUDU.

You might consider getting the HDFury Arcana eARC adapter. It allows an external media device like an Apple TV 4K to bypass your TV’s limitations and send audio directly to the Sonos Arc resulting in Dolby Atmos and multichannel PCM audio:

Thanks… ordered.

It would, however, be nice if this HDfury device can also switch between the eARC and the TV’s ARC before it reaches the Sonos ARC though.
