I’m having a cabinet built which will contain an electric fireplace and a sonos beam placed above it. How far above the fireplace should the beam to placed?

Regardless of fireplace or not, speakers perform best if they are at the listener’s head level. In terms of heat, this is rarely an issue -- or the cabinet, walls near the fireplace, and the mantle would be at risk too. Avoid direct radiation from the fireplace striking BEAM. If you are worried about this, a white beam would be lower risk.
