Just purchased Beam. Setting up with new Sony TV. The cable going into the back of the TV will not stay in (vertical input). It just falls out with gravity. Will try taping it but would love a solution. Is the Sonos cable provided with the Beam not acceptable?

HDMI-ARC sends the same digital information. The setup procedure in the app attempts to use HDMI-ARC unless it's unable to. The optical connection method is a fallback.

It sounds like the dust shutter has possibly broken off the optical socket on the back of your TV. Sockets that have a dust shutter use it to lock the plug in place. No shutter, and the plug will fall out.

Why aren't you using the ARC socket on your TV (HDMI 3) instead?

Got cable to stay put. Using the cable provided by Sonos. What is the diff using this cable vs HDMI3?
The primary connection method is via HDMI-ARC/HDMI-CEC, so that the TV remote can control the Beam volume directly, and the Beam's voice control can likewise switch the TV on/off.

The optical adapter is provided to cater for legacy TVs which lack HDMI-ARC.

Ok we thought digital was better. R u recommending not using optical and switch to HDMI-ARC?
