I have recently added a sonos amp to my system. Can I use the hdmi as a line in.

Kind of. It has to be HDMI-ARC, rather than HDMI, which means the audio will be on different “pins”.

Thanks for the reply. Making more sense to me now.

I have ordered a Sonos optical adapter so that should make it work.

Vince.

The Amp also has an RCA analog line in.

The optical->HDMI could be used as a second Line-In, however performance on any grouped players would be slightly compromised:

  • the grouped rooms would be out of sync, albeit by only a few tens of milliseconds
  • the grouped rooms would receive a lightly compressed (lossy) stream
