As a guess, they don't perceive a value in the higher resolution files. There's many threads about this issue.

Why open the can of worms that larger file sizes would cause due to increased bandwidth needs if there is no audible improvement?
I know ALAC, but what is ALAC HD?

24bit 48khz is ALAC HD apparently
There's no such thing as ALAC HD, other than as some kind of marketing jargon presumably.

Apple Lossless supports up to 8 channels of audio at 16, 20, 24 and 32 bit depth with a maximum sample rate of 384kHz.

As for why Sonos doesn't support 'hi-res' this has been gone over countless times in other threads. In short, there isn't a scientific rationale to do so. See https://people.xiph.org/~xiphmont/demo/neil-young.html
