I have just had the new one delivered and it does not connect - not by WiFi or by hard direct HDMI - v v disappointing to have bought a pair and no success - we have 4 other old Sonos speakers and they work fine but not these new ones
I assume you mean ethernet not HDMI.
You unplugged them to reboot them and tried again? That worked for me.

OK got it to work. When it was trying to login to amazon it went to the amazon app installed on my iPad, flashed them went back to the setup screen. I deleted the amazon app and then it logged me in to Amazon to do the setup.
Yes, with no issue. I followed the prompts, did the Device discovery and it worked straight away. I have 5 Dots so it was just another to add. Only thing I’d change is the tone that it plays when I say ‘Alexa’ It sounds like a Windows error message

Hmm, mine doesn't work.

Mine has arrived. Delighted with it. Very stylish looking, great sound

Totally agree, have you been able to get yours to connect to Alexa?

My Sonos One is arriving Monday October 23rd. Will I be able to set it up on the 23rd, or will I have to wait until the 24th? If so, is that Midnight (ET) on the 24th or some other time?

When exactly will setup of Sonos One work?

I have mine now and it sounds great. Better than a Play 1. A little clearer, richer, and more bass. I got Pandora and Apple Music to connect but can't get Alexa to connect. It times out on the Amazon page.
Ryan are there technical differences that would drive that decision? It's surprising to me that it's not currently planned for.
There are some big reasons for this, it's not on the scale that the PLAY:5 gen1 vs gen2, but definitely some differences. Besides.... they'd look funny side by side :)

This is the most disappointing fact about the Sonos One. I ordered two, they arrived today. I am considering returning mine due to the fact that they will not create a stereo pair except with another Sonos One - that is unacceptable and was NOT mentioned in the product announcements or onsite literature.

I do NOT think a Play:1 paired with a Sonos One in the same room would look funny - and I don't care. They will NOT be sitting side by side! :@

It has been mentioned all over the place and in these forums in many pots and just about every review that you can't currently stereo pair with a Play 1. I don't know how you could have missed that.
If you have two Sonos Ones, I would hold on to them; they will pair with each other, and Alexa needs in the other space can be met by a cheap Dot. Sonos may enable the pairing you are looking for in the future and if they do, make the changes and release the Dot for use elsewhere.

TFT... seems well balanced...

if they are that different then why didnt they call it something else!
Well, they did - '1' and 'one'. Come on - these are the people who completely redesigned the Play:5 but didn't change the name at all...

also comment on the drawback of not being able to pair and '1' with a 'one' !

Don't do this just because of the CNET comment because many reviews say different - that there isn't any difference in sound. And one review claims that the response of Echo to Alexa commands is a little better than that of Sonos One. That is something that certainly could do with more investigation, including by Sonos.

So, CNET says the Sonos One sounds even better than the Play:1. I am very impressed. For the price and the size, the Play:1 is very, very good. I may have to get a couple of Sonos Ones. I just wish they would support the Echo calling feature.

Sonos version 8.1 is launching today, it should be available already. That is the software for the Sonos One. Just update to 8.1 and when you get your Sonos One you'll be able to set it up and be good to go.

Yeah.why do i need a mic on every speaker of my house?

And why there is not a line in in the new sonos one?
would you be able to pair a One with a Play:1? I don't think I need to have all speakers to have the microphone, would be nice to mix it up.

I agree, it would be great that Play 1 owners would be able to pair with the new Sonos One
So, is my understanding correct in that the Sonos One will still pair with my Play:1's and my Play:5, but it won't work as a STEREO pair with another Play:1?

I would like that sonos allow to pair a Sonos One and a Play 1 .
I would not call it naive: did you expect a play 1 and a play 5 to be stereo paired? And playing nice with each other includes an important aspect on which all models made since the beginning of Sonos, including the new One, deliver; all will play with all others in a group, in perfect sync.

If you are still within the return time frame, why wouldn’t you just return the Play 1 for 2 Sonos One? It’s $400 either way and you get Alexa and a stereo pair.

I am definitely returning the Play 1 I bought during the Amazon offer for $150.
The issue is not the $50+ difference (150+200 vs 200+200+shipping back) - the issue I have is that while I was aware Sonos is fundamentally a close system I believed that all Sonos speakers would play nice with each other and be able to be organised as desired. I now realized that assumption was naive.

Not saying I will not go for 2 Sonos One - just that one of the assumptions I had about the future-proof nature of the system might have been false and need to consider it.

great to know - I was planning to get a Sonos One for stereo purpose with the Play 1 I just bought. Now I feel like rather than buying a 2nd Play 1 to just return it and call it a day :(

The Sonos One will only pair with another Sonos One, for the purposes of creating a stereo pair or a surround sound setup. You can use a Sonos One in a household with any and all Sonos players.
