Psyberian,

Sounds like you got hit by the "we'll tell you anything to get the sale" guy at Best Buy. It's happened enough to me that I now don't pay any attention to what they say, and do all my research before going there (and looking for an open box!).

But all your existing equipment will work, either with the purchase of a Sonos One, or the purchase of any of the multitude of Amazon Echo devices. There is no killing of any integration whatsoever.

I normally do and though I saw somewhere that there was one, then jumped the gun. I just say the other announcement about the upgrade and integration that was also added. http://www.sonos.com/en-us/software/release/8-0

I own sonos products not amazon products so I think Sonos should have the answer:?
You misunderstand the technology. Sonos facilitates your connection to Amazon's Alexa. Amazon will decide when Alexa works in Canada.

It would be like asking Samsung when HBO is going to do a new season of Game of Thrones because you watch it on their TV.

Play:One's which were bought with the understanding that they would continue to get "better over time".
Come on now. They are getting better. They simply don't have everything that the newer product does.

Why don't you activate and use the microphone in wi-fi connected phones (or tablets) for voice control of the Sonos system?
Why buy Sonos when you can get a cheap Bluetooth speaker? Because, the parts are not the same. The hardware inside the Play 5 is not the same as what's required to deliver Alexa's functionality.

Since our phones are always with us and can be spoken into directly, there should be no need for a "6 far-field microphone array with advanced beamforming". Keep it simple!
First, same point as before. Second, you do understand this isn't magic right? No one elects to use an array of microphones because it's fun, but that's what it takes to understand our human mumblings from across a noisy room. There's literally nothing simple about the technology behind voice recognition. It's a fascinating field to read up on, and I'd recommend it to anyone with some time to kill.
Sonos One with Amazon Alexa built in: Will this work with all Sonos speakers? Meaning can I 'speak' into any connected speaker or just the one with Alexa built in?

Well, the other units lack the microphones needed, so they cannot hear you speaking to them. So although all units can be controlled by voice, the only one that can hear the voice commands will be the Sonos One. If you need voice control in other rooms out of hearing range of the Sonos One, you need another Alexa enabled device like an Echo Dot.

Does the sonos one suppprt all the alexa skills or is it just for music.
It'll support most Alexa skills, but the emphasis is music.

How can we tell which alexa skills the sonos one will and won't support -- for example, will the new sonos One play the daily flash briefing, give weather, jokes, etc.?
To the best of my knowledge, the Sonos One just has the equipment of an Alexa built in to it, so it should do all of the skills that a normal Alexa/Echo device does. The grand majority of that is actually in the cloud, and not in the device itself. I would expect it to act like any other Alexa/Echo device, with full functionality.

The way I think of it is a dot, glued to the top of a Sonos PLAY:1. Just a little prettier, as it's all built in.

would you be able to pair a One with a Play:1? I don't think I need to have all speakers to have the microphone, would be nice to mix it up.
Great question, Mugenabe. The Sonos One will only pair with another Sonos One, for the purposes of creating a stereo pair or a surround sound setup. You can use a Sonos One in a household with any and all Sonos players. The Sonos One can issue commands to them all, and control what's playing. But if you're looking to made a stereo pair or surround sound setup, you'll need two Sonos Ones.

I'll make sure to pass on to the team that you're interested in seeing this at some point in the future, but there aren't any plans to share at this time that this might happen.

Edited for clarity.
Does this mean i cant use Sonos One in my Home Theater setup? Or i will be able but need to replace Play:1s(rare) with Sonos Ones and pair it with Sub and Playbar?

As jgatie said, you need to be talking to a speaker with microphones. The Sonos One is our first player with this capability. You could add Amazon Echo Dots to other rooms, and that'll let you control your Sonos players too. Once an Amazon Alexa enabled device hears your command, it'll send that to whatever room you're targeting.

Yes, yes, and yes. It'll work with just about all of the basic features. Voice calling "drop in" is the main one I know that won't be working.

A single Sonos One can issue commands across your whole Sonos system. It can be in any room and send the commands over for music control. But if you're looking to use a Sonos One as part of a surround setup with your PLAYBAR, you'd need two of them, since they can't bond with a PLAY:1.
Will a Sonos One purchased in the US work with an Amazon.co.uk account in the UK (mom coming to visit -- may send her home with one of these.)
Will Airplay 2 be coming to the Sonos One when the update arrives in 2018? I would assume so as it’s your latest product, but don’t want to rely on an assumption.

That's a very safe assumption. We're not sharing all the details quite yet, but I'd say you're safe on this one.

This should be fine too. Just a note, you'll get the wrong power cable and will need to get that swapped out. We don't really recommend buying players from the wrong region as they could have a number of differences in regards to wireless or power specs. Also, the warranties are region specific.
Amazon just added MultiRoom feature itself in recent month. Can I integrate a set of Sonos One as a Stereo pair together with other Echo devices in other rooms at the same time?

When will this be released with currys, amazon and other retailers as i have some gift vouchers i would like to use.
Available on October 24th, Sonos One is the smart speaker for music lovers. It’s everything you expect from a Sonos speaker, and now with built-in Alexa and microphones, you can control your entire Sonos system with your voice.

Any idea if the Play One will fit existing (Play 1) stands / brackets please?

Not seen a screw thread on the rear of the I e in any of the released photos.

Answering my own post...

Seems that only the Sanus stands brackets work correctly and no screw thread so not as secure as the Play 1. Might “sit” OK on other stands.

Thank you
Just ordered a Sonos One and signed up for the beta program to use my 7 Echo Dots with my whole house Sonos system. Looking forward to getting my family to listen music to our pricey and far superior Sonos speakers vs. the Echo Dots now that we'll have voice control!

Does the new Sonos One have a line-in jack?

No, missed opportunity in my opinion.

Hi, will audible work on the play one?
Hi, will audible work on the play one?

Yes... eventually at some point in the future but not when released.

Hi everyone, we've made some really big announcements and I wanted to make sure to share with you all something we said here. We're going to be adding direct control for Sonos from the Audible app. Not quite sharing a timeline on that just yet, but we'll let you know when we can share anything.

We're also hard at work with the Audible team to bring the service back to Sonos as a service first, that'll be soon, but we aren't quite ready to share the date with you all. Stay tuned, we'll be in touch!

Somehow my local store sold me one early last week! I can’t use it yet because the software isn’t available until the 24th, see thread here https://en.community.sonos.com/setting-up-sonos-228990/issue-adding-new-play-1-speaker-in-controller-app-6791648
