The first few reviews of the Sonos One are emerging. https://www.engadget.com/2017/10/18/sonos-one-review/ Unfortunately, there were a few times I ran into some strange and frustrating bugs -- the speaker wasn't recognizing that it was playing music, so "pause" or "next track" requests didn't work. Amazon Music also occasionally got confused and told me it was playing on another device so it couldn't play on the speaker I asked for. https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/10/18/16490866/sonos-one-speaker-review-alexa The process of enabling Alexa was a different matter and left me, a tech reviewer, feeling pretty stupid. Alexa could answer general questions and control my smart lights just fine within minutes, but would give me a “Something went wrong” error when I asked for music (or podcasts) with voice commands. https://www.wired.com/story/review-sonos-one/ Once you get things humming, the limitations of the voice controls become clear pret
If your Echo devices are named the same as your Sonos devices then you won't be able to use the Sonos devices. For example I had a Doc called "Bedroom", and the app would not discover my Sonos speaker called "Bedroom". I think the Alexa App should provide some indication of this, or maybe a warning during discovery
I have connected Sonos & Echo Dot, but when I ask Alexa to play through Sonos1, as this morning I asked Alexa to play Radio Lancashire, It came back with playing Radio Lancashire from Caths Tunein and plays on tinny-sounding DOT ! I Can I only listen to the radio by my Sonos app on my phone app? I do not have a Sonos to dot cable could this be the reason it plays on Alexa? yet it is picking up the radio from the DOT....Do I need to connect a cable?
I have three zones in my house. Kitchen, den, and living room. When we listen to music which is 80% of our use, the 3 zones are always in a group. The only time they are not grouped is when we watch TV in the living room. When grouped I have the volume of each zone balanced for constant sound throughout the house. Reading through the Alexa commands it appears that when a I want raise or lower the volume of my whole house music group I will have to command each zone individually.? I believe that you cannot group or ungroup zones via Alexa, but not having a master volume control for a group seems like a major oversight.
Hi, I have a number of play 1 speakers in 5 rooms and in each one I also have an echo dot. I have linked the account successfully and can discover the Sonos speakers in Alexa app. The speakers are named with the room and the dots named [room name] echo dot. However when I say "Alexa play radio 1 in [room name]" it always plays via the echo dot, not sonos. How can I make it always play via Sonos?
Hi all, just got my new Sonos One. Never owned any Sonos product before. Loving the sound quality. Setup was pretty straightforward, including linking with Alexa. I understand full Spotify support (i.e. voice control to let's say ask for specific tune) is not yet available but I thought some commands such as 'skip track' or 'pause' should be already available. Also, every skills that involve streaming content (for example the news flash brief or TED talks) don't seem to be working. Alexa finds the content quickly and appropriately, but once the streaming of the content is supposed to start, it goes silent. I tried the usual basic troubleshooting but no joy. Is it related to the One specifically? any suggestions? thanks!
My new Sonos One with Alexa arrived today, what can I say other than I’m greatly disappointed. I can’t get Alexa to play anything off either my Spotify or Deezer accounts, I wanted to create a stereo pair with an existing play one..... it won’t do that either, apparently I can only do it with another Sonos One. So why would I want 2 speakers, both with Alexa in the same room. I’ve always held Sonos in high regard but I feel as if I’ve been conned into buying a product that doesn’t do what I was led to believe it would. Very disappointed ?
This is a serious question and I ask it for this reason. I have been collecting music for the last 40 years, so my library is pretty extensive. I cannot begin to remember a fraction of titles from my music collection without scrolling through the folders in my digital library. If then I'm using the Sonos app on my phone to scroll through the library, why would I need/want to use something like Alexa to play the tracks I select. Surely at this point it would be much easier to select the tracks and play them straight from the Sonos app. Perhaps I'm missing something?
After a bit of playing around, I managed to setup my new Sonos One to be part of both my current Sonos system as well as Alexa (I already have several Amazon Alexa devices). Much of the setup needs to be done in the Amazon Alexa App for things like TimeZone, Location, Metric Units etc. There are still a couple of things that it'd be good to see if it's possible to fix... 1) All the other Alexa-enabled devices have the same British accented voice. The Sonos One has a North American accent. Can this be changed ? 2) Asking Alexa to play things (and other requests) is noticeably slower on the Sonos One than my other Echo and Echo Dots. Is there a difference in how or where the speech is processed ?
Could anyone answer this, if you have the Sonos one can you ask it to play music on a play 5 for example, I have set up the Sonos skill in Alexa , I suppose my question does Alexa on Sonos one control only that Sonos one or can you ask it to play music on a different not Sonos one device Thanks Bruce
so now I have both echo dots playing through both my sonos - one in bedroom and one in kitchen - however when I ask Alexa - play rock music on bedroom - one song gets played then the music stops - when I say Alexa pause music - Alexa skip to next song - the volume goes down (ducking) then after a few seconds goes up again - it only plays one song :? and then stops? any idea what I am doing wrong on setup? thanks :?:?:?:?
Can you control Amazon Music songs that are playing via your Sonos system, in the Sonos app? I've got a Connect Amp which plays via ceiling speakers in my kitchen. This zone is named "Kitchen". I can ask Alexa to play Jack Johnson in the Kitchen, and she will play Jack Johnson music from Amazon Music, in the Kitchen zone. Great. However, I find the volume controls to not be so good via voice, so would rather open the app, and adjust the volume that way. However, my app defaults to "Garage" as the last zone its showing (as that's the last zone I was using I think). I click on that at the bottom, check "Kitchen", uncheck "Garage" (and on that screen it shows there is music playing in the Kitchen and its Jack Johnson via Amazon Music), but then when I hit DONE, it should show me the screen that has the music sliders, play button, next button, and at the bottom it shows the zone. It is still on Garage. But that's not the zone I'm trying to control. Long story short, I sim
I can't get Alexa to successfully play a playlist on Sonos. I have set up everything and can play songs on Sonos. However, beyond that, Alexa is not doing anything to control my Sonos configuration. It only plays the first song in the playlist. It can't play any local songs (in Sonos) - only songs that are either in Amazon Unlimited or in the Amazon music folders online. Once playing a song, Alexa will not let me control the Sonos playlist either. It keeps telling me that it can only do that if I am playing something in Sonos (which I am). I say "stop..." and it just keeps going.
I have two Play 5s paired as a stereo pair named "Lounge". All Sonos apps running on my Mac devices were upgraded to 8.1 this weekend. I received a new Echo Dot two days ago. I've set it up with both the Sonos and Spotify skills. I've also set Spotify as my default music library. Commands like "Alexa, play coffee table jazz" gets the immediate response "Playing coffee table jazz from Spotify", work perfectly and music will play from the Dot speaker. However "Alexa, play coffee table jazz in the lounge" gives response "I don't see the playlist coffee table jazz in your music library. If I change the command to "Alexa, play coffee table jazz from Spotify in the lounge" the response becomes "Spotify is not connected on this device"! Alternatively, "Alexa, play coffee table jazz from Spotify" does get the positive response "Playing coffee table jazz from Spotify" as before. Ergo, Spotify isn't the problem, and if I switch the source to TuneIn radio, that also works perfectly throug
