Alexa Voice Commands for Apple Music
Will the ability to control Apple Music through Alexa Voice commands ever come to Sonos?

Alexa devices (Echos) are able to do it... so hopefully it's just a matter of time before Amazon makes it available with their software on 3rd party speakers.

How can you do it today?
With a third party skill that requires you to run a server app on your PC/mobile device, and state "Alexa tell (name of skill)" before every command. Coincidentally, that skill was created by the very same poster who pimps it in every thread he can.

Better yet, just give it a try, its not like it costs anything. Fyi most of the reviews were for the old version, which required a PC. The new version added iOS support and works in all English-speaking locales.
I think in order to be able to use Apple Music with voice, we will have to wait for future software updates.

PS: Is it the case that in the US, this can be done via Echo+Sonos but not via Sonos speakers with built in Alexa?

This can be done with neither of those options. Apple Music ONLY works today on Amazon's own Alexa devices (Echo , Echo Dot etc.) So far that same ability is not available in 3rd party devices either connected via Echo or directly like Sonos.
