When I go to cast to Sonos in Windows 10 (for example in File Explorer or Windows Media Player) I get a list of IP addresses followed by the Sonos model name e.g. ‘192.168.1.162 - Sonos One’  As I have multiple Sonos Ones this is not great.  Windows lets me view the device properties but does not let me change the network device name.  Can this be done?

The name you listed is the UPnP name exposed by the device’s xml file in the friendlyName attribute. You cannot change it.

OMG @Masimo is correct: you can just rename them in Explorer! Who knew.

Not me, certainly.  But then I have never had any reason to want to.

Sonos doesn’t use local device names. You might be able to change it by fiddling with the DHCP settings in the router.

Thanks for the replies, I had already played around with my router without success.  Now I know why :)

In my experience this friendlyName might change from release to release.

Open Windows Explorer, choose the Sonos device, right click on it, Rename, ….

Fill in a name to your liking and that's how it will appear.
